Laurence Winmill

Motivational speaker, Laurence Winmill, has worked in C-suite roles in advertising, digital media, publishing, automotive and pharmaceuticals, and instrumental in driving significant growth and development during his tenure. As an entrepreneur, he has created numerous startup projects and has a critical understanding of markets, customers and business strategy.

In 2001, Laurence left the corporate publishing world and after a three-year spell in pharmaceuticals, set up a successful magazine publishing business. Following on in 2010, he set up a full-service media agency with a series of offices along the M4 corridor helping to develop media campaigns for successful brands in retail, leisure, professional services, automotive and property.

In 2016, he took up the role of CEO for David Spear Commercial Vehicles, the UK’s leading LCV dealership specialising in the supply of new and used commercial vehicles across the UK and Ireland. Then in 2017, the business produced record sales growth of 30%.

Under his leadership the business also won a series of national awards which recognised the achievements of 2017, including the Auto Trader Digital Click Award for Independent Business Transformation and The Institute of Sales Management’s BESMA Award for Senior Leadership Team of the Year.

Change management

When Laurence left this role, he drew on his early experience in hospitality to set up a number of businesses. Yet within six months, Covid arrived and changed everything.

Representing one of the biggest challenges of his business career, he now uses the experience of creating several hospitality brands pre-pandemic and trying to manage these businesses against impossible odds during lockdown to inform delegates and the companies they serve. His expertise changing business models, introducing new services and technology to continue to serve customers, and thinking outside of the box to try and keep the business alive and staff employed has since proved invaluable.

Current projects

Laurence also volunteers his time as a business mentor, and provides expertise and support to startups, using all of his business experience to help business owners make the right choices during the early stages of their development.

Laurence now concentrates his career as a business consultant helping business owners and organisations to make the right choices to drive growth and build strategy for sustained success.  As a keynote speaker Laurence travels extensively, talking about his experiences as a business leader and entrepreneur. His ability to inspire audiences has resulted in him working with several international brands, including Unum, P&G, Kellogg’s, Dunelm and Armstrong. He has also penned a book entitled ‘Live Your Life’, which is a simple guide to personal and business success.

In his spare time, he spends time with his family, is an avid Chelsea football fan, works out at the gym, and enjoys walking and travelling.
