Acclaimed broadcaster, John Humphrys, has been a journalist for more than half a century. He was BBC TV’s youngest foreign correspondent and has anchored most frontline news and current affairs programmes on both television and radio. As the BBC’s first full-time US TV correspondent, covering Richard Nixon’s resignation, John made his mark.  He was soon sent to South Africa to report on the fragile political situation, and then in 1980, he returned to the UK as a diplomatic correspondent.  John was then snapped up as lead presenter for BBC1’s Nine O’clock News.  From 1987 until 2019 he hosted Radio 4’s Today programme. He has also presented various episodes of Panorama. From 2003- 2021 he was the host of the BBC Two television quiz show Mastermind. John currently presents a weekend programme on Classic FM and writes a column for the Daily Mail.

He is also the founder of the Kitchen Table Charities Trust.

John has carved a reputation for himself as a rigorous yet charming interviewer, whose curious and intelligent questioning has led to momentous breakthroughs in the British political arena.  These include the infamous 6.07am two-way exchange on the Iraq war with reporter Andrew Gilligan.  This led to the Hutton Report and subsequently the departures of Gillian; Director- General Greg Dyke, and chairman Gavyn Davies.

Alongside his iconic presenting status, John has published numerous books, including `Lost for Words’, in which he looks at what he sees as the widespread misuse of the English language.  Other publications include ‘Devil’s Advocate’, ‘Beyond Words’ and ‘The Great Food Gamble’.

He has won numerous national broadcasting awards, including the prestigious Sony Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement. The citation read: “He has truly changed the face of radio and the nature of the radio interview for an entire generation.”  He was named Journalist of the Year in 2000 at an awards ceremony organised by The House and Channel 4.  John was also presented with a silver platter for Crystal Clear Broadcasting from the Plain English Campaign.
