Sandi Toksvig OBE

Award winning presenter, writer and broadcaster, Sandi Toksvig, is a hugely popular corporate after dinner speaker and presenter.

Background

She is one of the original members of the Comedy Store Players performing improvisational events.  Sandi originally came to prominence on Whose Line is It Anyway and Call My Bluff.

Sandi had six years schooling at Mamoroneck High School, New York and later attained a First Class honours degree in Archaeology and Anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge. At Cambridge she was awarded the Theresa Montefiore Memorial Award for outstanding academic achievement. She also appeared in a variety of Footlights shows. Sandi was the director, writer and performer of the first all female Cambridge Revue.

She is a co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party and author of Girls Are Best.  Her memoir, Between the Stops: The View of My Life from the Top of the Number 12 Bus, was published in 2019. Sandi has acted as president of the Women of the Year Lunch.

Theatre and TV

Theatre credits include a season with the Nottingham Playhouse.  She appeared in The Boyfriend, A Little Night Music, Old King Cole and Comedy of Errors.  Performances include a season with the New Shakespeare Company at Regents Park and The Pocket Dream which she also co-wrote at the Albery Theatre, London. She also performed in the play Silver Lining.

Television credits include No 73 (TVS), Happy Families, Saturday Starship, Get Fresh, Motormouth, Gilberts Fridge, Ghost Train.  Also Behind the Headlines, The Big One with Mike McShane, Have I Got News For You and Island Race with John McCarthy.

Radio

Sandi is a familiar voice for BBC Radio 4 listeners, with programmes including I‘m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, The Unbelievable Truth, Excess Baggage and The News Quiz.

Awards

At the Broadcasting Press Guild Annual Television and Radio Awards, Sandi was awarded Radio Broadcaster of the Year, for chairing The News Quiz and presenting Excess Baggage.

Currently

From 2017 to 2020 she was co-presenter of The Great British Bake Off, alongside comedian Noel Fielding.  Sandi took over from Stephen Fry as the host of the hugely popular QI BBC series and is also co-presenter of Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off.  In 2020 Sandi created and performed  Vox Tox, a YouTube mini series.  Sandi also launched the podcast, We Will Get Past This, in 2020.
