Competing in the Marathan des Sables in Monorocco with temperatures over 50C, global motivational speaker, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, has been reportedly overtaking competitors a quarter of his age.  He is hoping to raise over 2 million for the Marie Curie charity to help provide free care and help support people living with terminal illness.

Before leaving for the challenge Sir Ranulph received a message from the Prince of Wales to wish him the best of luck in his endeavours.

He is hoping to attain the title of oldest Britain to complete the Marathon des Sables - which is renowned as the toughest race in the world.  He is planning to cover 155 miles (251 kilmetres) over the period of the race including completing the distance of a marathon a day and a double marathon on one day.  Competitors also carry everything they require throughout the race on their backs.

It is anticipated Sir Ranulph will be in huge demand for his inspirational and motivational speeches when he returns to the UK later this month.
